About MeThe figure depicted is the Jewish merchant Nathan who is the main character in the play Nathan the Wise (Nathan der Weise), written by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing in 1779. The play is set in Jerusalem during the third crusade and is a plea for religious tolerance. In 1922 this was adapted into a silent film and this may have prompted Royal Copenhagen to issue this figure, number R1413. It is based on a model by German sculptor Adolf Jahn.
