About MeOn 12th December 1839 the paddle steamer Brilliant was wrecked on the North Pier at Aberdeen. The vessel had sailed from Leith in stormy conditions and the captain had been washed over board and drowned near Girdleness. The heavy seas drove her onto the pier where her over heated boilers set the ship on fire and she was totally destroyed.
