About MeWilliam Robb was a goldsmith, and a native of Aberdeen. He settled in Ballater in eighteen-eighty and thus is known as 'Robb of Ballater'. Engraved with Celtic designs and thistle motifs, the snuff box is also set with agates and a central, semi-precious stone. This snuff box dates from 1893-1904.More About Me
This locally crafted box was used for carrying snuff - ground tobacco which was inhaled or "snuffed" into the nasal cavity, delivering a swift hit of nicotine.
