About MeA marine chronometer is a precision clock that keeps its accuracy when transported. In the second half of the 19th century such clocks played an important role in determining the longitude of places, a matter that was important to David Gill for some of his astronomy. On his expedition to Mauritius, Gill took an amazing suite of 53 marine chronometers with him, all set accurately upon departure. He was instrumental in determining accurate longitudes for places in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.
