About Me'I feel as if I know wood. I've learnt its language....I enjoy being led by the material to the extent that what I do is always material led.'

David Nash plants trees to replace those he has 'borrowed from the cycle of nature.' Wood has the capacity to change. It will crack, warp, bend and change colour. This deterioration is an active part of Nash's sculpture. Here, Nash has sliced an unseasoned cherry tree and has left it to dry so that it warps and cracks. The undulating twisted form sweeps up from the ground to lean heavily on the wall behind.
