About MeGeorge Leslie Hunter was the most emotionally volatile of the four Scottish Colourists and his temperament is reflected in his work. His painting is spontaneous; there is passion in it; and the quality is variable. Before Hunter discovered the south of France, he was drawn towards Fife as a place to paint. From 1922, Ceres and Largo were the towns that he usually visited. There he found colour; in this painting, the red of the pan-tiled roofs, the golden sands and green vegetation. The broadly handled foreground and warm, harmonious scheme of vivid reds, greens and blues are typical of Hunter's Fife paintings.
More About Me
Hunter worked as a magazine and book illustrator before his first one-man exhibition was destroyed on opening by the San Francisco earthquake in 1906.
