About MeBoth the paintings and the memorabilia objects came to Aberdeen Art Gallery from a Miss Lizzie Hogarth in 1939. She was a granddaughter of a William Hogarth, granite merchant of Aberdeen, who restored the painter's tomb in 1856. There is no family relationship between the two men but it seems probable that the granite merchant was prompted to acquire these artefacts by pride in his possession of the famous painter's name.
