About MeBefore his untimely death in 1905, the Aberdeen artist Robert Brough was one of the most prominent portrait painters in Scotland and also exhibited in Europe. He was accepted to study at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh in 1891 and after a year there he began to travel abroad to further develop his unique, essentially Post Impressionist style. Notably, in Paris he came under the influence of the French Impressionists, Monet and Degas included and learned how to use differing brushstrokes to convey different emotions and effectively to capture the moment in his works.

This catalogue records all of the works that Brough left in his studio following his death, from severe burns, caused by a railway crash near Sheffield. The sale was held in the Bon-Accord Saloons on North Silver Street in Aberdeen.
