About MeWatt has taken a direct approach, deliberately adopting and experimenting with Japanese metalworking techniques. He is a jeweller who has used several methods including the Japanese technique of zougan, which is inlay. The particular zougan used in this pair of earrings is known as sen zougan, which is line or flush wire inlay. Japanese metalworking techniques including zougan and hori, which is engraving, were used in weapon making, particularly the Samurai sword and historically handed down within the family from father to son.
