15/10/1823:
Cowes - It appears that on the 14th the brig MONARCH, of Aberdeen, Alexander Martin, master, bound to Quebec, ran against this Island [Isle of Wight], in a thick fog, and sunk in deep water. The boat got out in time to save 25 but we lament to say that 5 passengers were drowned.
