04/08/1852:
Cadiz, 24th July. The EDINBURGH PACKET. Meikbreid, from Newcastle to this port, was driven on shore at Cubo Cander, between Rota and Chipiona, during the night, and is full of water; crew saved. It has since been blowing fresh at N.W. with a heavy sea & it is feared the vessel will become a total wreck
(Lloyd's List)
It seems odd that a Schooner that had spent most of its life in Scottish waters should be wrecked in Spain but there is no EDINBURGH PACKET in Lloyd's 1852, and its last entry on the Post Office Aberdeen Directory was also 1852 (p. 55).
New rig in 1836 (see Aberdeen Register of Shipping, No. 25)
Notes: Contract cost £1,034, or £12 per ton (Builder's List held in the Lloyd's Library of the Aberdeen Maritime Museum)
See ABDMS003001.13 for details of this vessel's voyages under the ownership of John Cook (1849).
