David Henderson

Aberdeen, Scotland, born 1956
About MeDavid Henderson studied Design & Craft (Printmaking) at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. He was awarded a George Davidson Travelling Scholarship, Scottish Arts Council Young Artists Bursary and was appointed as a professional member of The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW). In 2006 he won the RSW Council Award exhibition prize for best painting and most recently he was granted the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) David Gluck Memorial Award 2014.
Henderson often works in the mediums of printmaking and watercolour, his work recording the natural cycles of the local landscape; the forces of extreme weather against structures of shelter and protection. Thus quintessential motifs of houses and fallen trees (man and destruction) are ever-present.
Alongside his own practice, teaching has been instrumental in Henderson’s career. He held a number of senior academic posts within Gray’s and now currently is the Head of Painting at Leith School of Art, Edinburgh.
