Wydale

Steam Herring Drifter
About MeThe Gorleston-owned wooden drifter Wydale occasionally landed catches of herring at Aberdeen. The Wydale, built in 1917, had notable successes at the Cornish mackerel fishing and at herring catching off East Anglia. In 1950, with a 'shot' of 250 1/4 cran, it won the Prunier Trophy - and its commemorative windvane - for the largest single catch of herring at East Anglia that year. Wydale was one of the last steam drifters fishing out of Britain. it was laid up in 1961 and scrapped that same year.
