Norman Gordon Cook

Engineer, 1899-1927
About MeSon of Robert Sellar Cook.

Served part of his apprenticeship with engine maker Alexander Wilson of Aberdeen, this from the 6th January 1915. In February 1916 he transferred to Andrew Lewis's shipbuilding/engineering business. This was a consequence of him wishing to extend his experience (wartime production at Wilson's would have meant a great deal of repetitive work).

In May 1918 he joined the RAF serving some time at the seaplane base at Strathberg near Peterhead. After leaving the RAF he joined Barry, Henry & Company in April 1919 where he worked as an "improver" in the drawing office. He completed his apprenticeship in January 1920. He became an erector with Barry Henry & Company doing jobs away from Aberdeen. In 1921 he went to work for CF Wilson to extend his experience.

Following the legal judgement in his family's favour he returned to Barry Henry & Cook to work alongside his brother.

He died in a motorcycle accident in 1927 on the coast road south of Aberdeen, near Portlethen.
