DescriptionMARY ESSLEMONT 1891 - 1984 GENERAL PRACTITIONER, SOROPTIMIST AND FREE BURGESS OF ABERDEEN LIVE HEREHistoryGeneral Practitioner. Born in Aberdeen she studied at Aberdeen University and became the first woman president of the Student's Representative Council in 1923. She qualified as a General Practitioner, worked as a Justice of the Peace and was elected President of the Medical Women's Association and President of the Soroptimists of Great Britain and Ireland. Esslemont was made a CBE in 1955 and awarded the degree of LLD from Aberdeen University. She is also honoured as a Free Burgess of the City of Aberdeen.
