About MeAlison Watt is one of the finest exponents of figurative art working in Scotland today. A few years ago she began to truncate her painted female figures and the cloth that enveloped them became increasingly important in her work, contrasting with the skin of the figures.

In this recent painting the figure is suggested only subliminally and the fabric that once surrounded it is now the principle subject. Indeed, in some sense, the fabric has become the body - here the luxuriant folds suggest pursed lips. The resulting image is subtle yet intensely erotic.

More About Me
This painting is mysterious - do you think there is anything underneath the fabric?
