About MeThis dish was made at the Arita kilns on the Japanese island of Kyushu. It is typical of the early wares produced in that area for export to the West.
Japanese blue and white porcelain has a looser more fluid style compared to its Chinese counterpart.
This dish features the ho ho bird, a mythical creature like the phoenix usually depicted with a long, trailing tail with exotic feathers.
More About Me
The bird with the long tail is the mythical ho-ho of Japanese and Chinese legend, said to reign over all other birds.
