About MeThe four figures depict The Four Quarters of the Globe –a group which was produced by other ceramic manufacturers, such as Meissen (c.1750) and Derby Porcelain Co. (c.1780). Africa is represented by a lion; America is represented by an alligator; Asia is represented by a camel and a Levantine girl; Europe is represented by a horse and a girl with an orb and sceptre. Each figure bears a small painted gold anchor on the back near the base.
The gold anchor mark is associated with the Chelsea factory which was established by a silver and goldsmith, Nicholas Sprimont, from Liege.
The gold anchor period was 1758-1760s. This was the final phase of the Chelsea factory, and Sèvres replaced Meissen as the main design influence.
