20/02/1867:
The smack SOUTHERNER, in entering Duke's Dock Runcorn, on Monday, struck against the pier and drove the anchor flue through her port bow. She commenced filling rapidly, but owing to the prompt action of the dock foreman (Mr. Evans) she was kept afloat, and her cargo (clay) discharged. The vessel is without any further damage.
