About MeThe design for this dish won second prize in the Young Designer Silversmith Award in 2010. The annual competition, which is run by the Goldsmiths' Company, began in 1994 and each year young student silversmiths are invited to respond to a themed design brief for a particular piece of domestic or ceremonial silver. The winners are placed in a modern silversmithing workshop where, under the direction of a master craftsman, they are able to realise their design in silver, the cost of which is paid for by the Company.

The brief for 2010 was to design a presentation dish suggestive of coastal environments and their rich edible sources. Hazel, a recent graduate from Glasgow School of Art designed this dish inspired by the form of fish, which possesses a distinct linear quality and features minimal decoration. Hazel had the opportunity to spend one week in the workshop of London based silversmith Clive Burr, where she gained experience working directly alongside him to hone her skills and finally translate her design into a finished piece.
