About MeCorrespondence between James Connell and James McBey, Early Paper Ephemera. The object is actually three letters on the same paper - one letter from James Connell of James Connell & Sons, Fine Art dealers and publishers based in Glasgow, two letters from McBey to Connell. The two letters from McBey to Connell appear to be drafts.

One letter from McBey is dated 15 December 1910, the while letter from Connell is dated 24 December 1910. In one letter, McBey suggests they "approve the set" of "Dutch subjects", referring to his stay in Holland in the Autumn of 1910. The letter from Connell indicates they would be "glad" to receive a "selection" of McBey's etchings, as well as a note of the "limit of each collection", referring to published pieces and discounts.

The second letter from McBey is undated, but refers to his own note of 15 December and Connell's letter of 24 December 1910. He says he has completed a set of etchings, and can call into Glasgow with them.

James McBey refers to his visit to Glasgow and to James Connell & Sons in his autobiography, and claims that the company were not interested in his etchings.

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this letter.
