About MeSketch drawn by James McBey during his time as Official War Artist in Egypt from 26 May 1917, depicting a steam train. McBey has annotated the sketch to highlight colours of certain sections, for example he has written that the front part was red, and that there was a white door halfway along the train. A time of 4.45pm has also been noted.

The sketch is kept within a sketchbook, along with a series of other related drawings.

This object is part of an archive that belonged to Marguerite McBey. As a result of her generosity, Aberdeen Art Gallery holds the largest archive of James McBey's work, including prints, drawings, sketchbooks, oil paintings and memorabilia such as this sketch.
