At this time skirts are longer and more bell-shaped as a result of a lower waistline. A particular feature of day dresses is the full sleeve, particularly the gigot, which is very full near the top and tapering below the elbow.
The regular pattern on the fabric of the dress was printed in one of the Lancashire cotton mills using a system of engraved rollers. The dress would have been worn with a white finely embroidered cap and a fashionable Kashmir shawl.
