About MeThe Aberdeen artist Robert Brough studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools in Edinburgh, where he became friendly with fellow student S.J. Peploe. The two young artists shared rooms together in Paris in the summer of 1894.

Around this time, Brough and Peploe shared an interest in giving the sense of having captured a moment on canvas. Their ability to express a fleeting expression of the face with a minimum of free brushwork was a direct, modern approach, employed before them by the French Impressionists and the Glasgow Boys.
