About MeKit Barker, a self-taught painter, was associated with the St. Ives school of artists in his early career. He taught in the United States, travelled extensively in Europe and is represented in many international public collections.
Barker's work is linked to a 'sense of place'. In this painting, the ominous character of the cliffs is condensed and dramatised by the use of deep blues; Barker is no naturalistic painter, but interprets freely to present a theatrical mood.
