About MeCassie was well acquainted with the local fishing villages and travelled down the coast painting the local people and the sea.He admired the work of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their influence can be seen in the detailed foreground and the sense of truth to nature.
The light coming in from the distant setting sun bathes the whole composition in a golden hue which imbues it with a sense of the monumental.
