About MeThis striking portrait was painted ten years after George MacDonald published his celebrated novel Phantastes: A Faerie Romance for Men and Women. George’s writing was highly original and influenced much of modern fantasy writing, influencing the work of CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien and Lewis Carroll.

This was one of the first portraits painted by George Reid. It was greatly praised for its fine quality and was instrumental in bringing the artist to public attention.
