About MeThis portrait of journalist William Alexander was painted at the height of his career by his friend, the Aberdeen-artist, George Reid. By this time William was editor of the Aberdeen Free Press and had published his novel Johnny Gibb of Gushetneuk. Depicting country life in the North-East and written in Doric dialect, the work was highly praised. William went on to write five further novels. He was actively involved in liberal politics and in the civic life of Aberdeen, contributing to many projects which benefitted city life.
