About MeGlove Display Box from Brent D platform. Depending upon the structure of the massive oil platform in the North Sea it may be possible to literally lift all the accomodation and production deck by a huge crane and bring everything ashore to be dismantled.
This is what happened to Brent D in 2017. Because of that most of the things that were in use every day aboard the platform arrived with the structure. This display case was one such item, and is something that would usually be discarded.
There are six different glove types starting at the top left:
Close quarter or touch sensitive (thin synthetic fibre gloves with latex covering)
Kevlar Gloves ( for metal working and cutting)
Impact Gloves(synthetic fabric, with plastic protector blocks following bone structure)
General Use (leather and fabric)
Light Kevlar
General Purpose (heavy leather, fabric lined and lightly padded)
All vary greatly incolour but are displayed upon a blue fabric.
The box was once mounted on wall outside the stores in module 16 of the platform. An ex worker on platform has confirmed this. They represent the range of PPE available from stores aboard the platform for use by workforce. Not all gloves were 'free' to all workers aboard, often those employed by sub-contractors were charged for replacements, either directly or their company was charged by the operator. Often this was passed on to the worker as a 'legitimate charge' for equipment.
