About MeStoneware small jug with gently sloping body rising to a pulled and flattened double rim with wide lip. Strap handle pulled from below the rim and terminating towards the foot if the body. Distinct potting rings around body.
The interior is glazed in a pale green ash glaze with pale green celadon pooling around the rim. The exterior body and handle are glazed in a rust brown iron (tenmoku) glaze.
Richard Batterham trained at the Leach Pottery with Bernard Leach before establishing his own pottery in Dorset in 1959. He preferred to work alone, overseeing all aspects of making ceramics, including making his own stoneware clay. He specialised in pale green coloured wood-ash glazes and rich dark iron glazes and made no distinction between the domestic wares for everyday use and his large decorative objects.
