About MeSpencer Gore met Sickert in 1904 and soon his work showed the influence of the older artist. 'The Blue Petticoat' calls to mind Sickert's bedroom subject matter such as his famous Camden Town Murder series. Gore however employs brighter colours than Sickert. This gives his work a very different mood, which is closer to the work of the French 'Intimistes' painters Edouard Vuillard or Pierre Bonnard who gained this epithet because of their preference for intimate interiors.
More About Me
Gore was in the Camden Town Group, but the bright colours in this painting seem closer to the work of the Frenchmen Vuillard and Bonnard
