About MeJames Hector was an Aberdeen artist who exhibited numerous works with the Aberdeen Artists' Society between 1886 and 1937. He taught James Cowie.

He painted portraits, flower studies, landscapes and coastal scenes. He travelled to France and Portugal and in Britain as far south as Cornwall but favoured the picturesque villages of the east nook of Fife, such as Pittenweam and St Monance, where this painting is probably set.
