About MeHitchens' paintings are concerned with communicating the poetic beauty of his environment. He was influenced by Matisse, but through his abstractions natural forms always remain recognisable. Blocks of colour and strong lines dominate this piece but the form of the nude is represented in a more subtle, linear way. This combination brings forward and emphasises the figure.
