About MeChinese scholars' objects were used and displayed in the scholar's studio. Brush pots were used to hold the brushes used by scholars for calligraphy and landscape and still-life painting. This brush pot is in the shape of a lotus flower. The lotus flower is associated with Buddhism and is a symbol of feminine beauty as well as purity because it rises unsullied from the mud.
Celadon glaze originated in China and later spread to Korea, Japan and Thailand.
