About MeThe Bough Pottery was established in Edinburgh in 1913 by Elizabeth Amour Watson along with three other members of the Amour family. Elizabeth had studied at Glasgow School of Art. The pottery was painted under the glaze on blanks which were bought in from other potteries. Pieces are marked BOUGH or RUTLAND (their studio having been in Rutland Place and Rutland Street). The pottery was well advertised in The Scotsman newspaper and, as well as selling direct from the studio, their wares could be purchased in Edinburgh art and craft shops. They also regularly exhibited at agricultural and garden shows and fairs such as the Highland Show. The pottery closed in the early 1940s with disposal sales being advertised in 1940. This may have been due to shortages of blank ware because of the war.
More About Me
This lovely example of Bough pottery was produced in Edinburgh in the interwar years. Renewed interest in such Amour family decorated pieces is presently reflected in competitive prices.
