For his first solo collection of 1972 Bill Gibb collaborated with the artist Sally MacLauchlan who screen-printed the chrysanthemum, foliage and bee motifs onto several leather garments. The effect of the highly decorative design in silver on the rich brown leather background of this coat is striking, especially when combined with Gibb's exquisite tailoring of a material which is seldom used in this way.
