About MePurple printed silk dress with a high neck and very full skirt, trimmed with beaded black lace. Beaded braiding and trimming, which was readily available to dress makers from about the mid nineteenth century, was a quick and easy way to embellish an outfit. This dress was worn by the wife of a Minister from Rathven near Buckie as her going away outfit, circa 1850s.
