About MeDrill bits are the 'business end' of creating an oil well. They come in various sizes and types, depending upon the geology, the depths being drilled as well as the reason for the actual drilling. This could be exploratory (in which case the drill will be hollow allowing a column of material to be extracted to the surface for examination), or exploitative as in the case of this bit.
Drill heads such as these rotate while the geared teeth. Or perhaps exploitative. Th as in this case which basically pulverises the rock allowing the mud pumped in the centre to force the cuttings out of the borehole.
