About MeParsons worked as a clerk for the Post Office before he took up painting full time. Like many other English artists of the day he delighted in painting an idealised vision of the English countryside, although he also painted many studies of flowers. This painting is reminiscent of Sisley's paintings of the river Loing but Parsons interprets this riverside scene in a more traditional, less intimate and much grander way. His almost photographic realism is typical of much English art and is quite at variance with the freer interpretation of landscape being practised in France at the time.
More About Me
Parsons was a landscape painter, illustrator and garden designer who also participated in the late 19th century Arts & Crafts Movement that sought to re-establish traditional crafting methods in the face of growing industrialisation.
