About MeWhilst much of the Doulton company's output of art pottery was based in Lambeth during the 19th century, it also produced several lines from its Burslem site. Much of the output was delicately hand decorated domestic china, but experiments by Charles Noke and John Slater in the 1890s led to the introduction of flambé glazes, marbled, veined and high temperature glazes in the early 20th century. From 1902 wares were marked with the distinctive interlaced 4 capital Ds, under a lion standing on a coronet and ROYAL DOULTON; the mark on the base of this vase. The company underwent a series of mergers in the latter part of the 20th century, and still trades today under the Doulton name.
