About MeThis stoneware ovoid-shaped vase with rolled and flattened everted rim is glazed all over in a pale green wood ash glaze with splashes of iron brown.
It is decorated with prominent incised rib lines between shoulder and neck and around the middle of the body. These ribs are cut through with three V shapes on the upper lines and with three inverted V shapes on the lower band. The upper section of the body has a diagonal striped pattern of inlaid pale green clay.
William Plumptre makes stoneware, including plates, bowls, bottles and vases, inspired by landscape and influenced by Japanese pottery traditions. He frequently uses the decorative technique of inlaying coloured slips (liquid clay) into a pattern of impressions made on the surface of the semi dry pot. His glazes are made of local materials, such as wood ash, found near his pottery in Witherslack, Cumbria.
