About MeThe image shows the semi submersible rig during a storm in 1976 in the Argyll Field (now Ardmore Field). The rig was originally a drilling semi submersible, but was converted to a production rig to operate the field. Argyll was the first of the UK fields to produce oil on a commercial basis..
The rig which had originally been built as a drilling rig in 1966 went through a number of conversions before and after it worked in the North Sea.
In 1981 during a major storm the anchor chains parted and caused most of the crew to be evacuated whilst it drifted some 27 miles from its station. Not
It's name was changed in 1988, after a major conversion, to North Sea Pioneer. By the early 1990's it was working off Angola, and a decade later was off Ghana.
