About MeThis is the first St Rognvald, built in 1883. In addition to providing services to the Northern Isles, St Rognvald pioneered the North Company's Norwegian cruise programme in 1886. This proved very popular and the vessel was modified to suit this work. Changes included an extension to the deckhouse, creating a 'music saloon'. In this painting, passengers can be seen promenading on top of the deckhouse. St Rognvald was wrecked in fog on 24 April 1900, during a passage from Lerwick to Kirkwall.

St Rognvald (I) was a steamer used to establish the North Company's Norwegian cruise programme from 1886, until it was wrecked in a fog on 24 April 1900. Curiously, this painting defies contemporary trends by illustrating passengers on-board the vessel.
