About MeA large glass rummer, which is wheel engraved with a splendid Highlander caught in the act of inhaling snuff. The engraving clearly shows his Highland costume, including a magnificent plumed bonnet, a sporran with a fox's head and his snuff mull. The depiction would suggest that the engraving was executed in the first quarter of the 19th century when there was a rising interest in Highland culture, encouraged by Sir Walter Scott's romantic novels, and George IV's visit to Edinburgh in 1822, when eveyone, including the King, was dressed in tartan.
More About Me
The engraving on this rummer was probably made in  the early nineteenth century, when there was an upswing in interest in Scottish culture thanks to King George IV's visit to Edinburgh in 1822, and the novels of Sir Walter Scott.
