About MePrunella Clough studied at the Chelsea School of Art where she later taught. Clough was fascinated by industry and portrayed it in many of her works. Besides fishermen, she painted lorry drivers and industrial workers in various settings (we have another painting by her of a telephone engineer). This painting is one of Clough's most important works and has been widely exhibited. Clough has painted the fishermen on a monumental scale as if to represent the whole fishing industry. It was probably painted in Lowestoft in East Anglia which at the time had a thriving fishing industry.
