About MeSteven Campbell worked as an engineer before enrolling at Glasgow Art School at the age of twenty-five. He soon rose to fame during the 1980s as one of a group of figurative painters from Glasgow.

Campbell's paintings are characterised by surreal images and layers of symbolism. Large scale and roughly painted, the powerful scenes are amusing and cynical. His arcane titles often appear at odds with the painted image, recalling the work of Surrealist Max Ernst and the viewer is invited to unravel a story.
