About MeThis is an "Order of the Medjidieh" neck badge, Second Class and is the companion of the "Order of the Medjidieh" breast badge. Instituted in 1851, the Order was awarded in five classes, with the First Class being the highest. The Order was issued in considerable numbers by Sultan Abdülmecid as a reward for distinguished service to members of the British Army and the Royal Navy, and the French Army who came to the aid of the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War against Russia. The Order was often conferred on non-Turkish nationals. This badge is made of silver with gold applique. It is shaped as a seven-pointed star with each ray as triple quills decorated with marcasite, and connected by seven small crescents and five-pointed stars between them. The centre presents a gold-bordered circle filled with red enamel and inscribed with Arabic letters and numbers: "Zeal, Devotion, Loyalty, 1268 "(Arabic year for AD 1852). In the centre of the star is Sultan Abdülmecid's tughra, because he founded the Order in 1851. The reverse has a circular Ottoman Turkish mark reading the words "Darphane-i Amire", which is the name of the National Mint in Istanbul. This mark is enclosed between a crescent and a star. The badge comes with a 3 cm red enamelled crescent and star suspender, but is not attached to it anymore.
