About MeUsed in the treatment of fractures of femur in conjunction with traction; later sometimes inserted in fracture of pelvis where scaffolding was required. Traction nurses had to inspect wound sites for signs of infection, check all screws were tight and guards in situ; patient often had a lack of confidence in the stability of leg after removal of pin. It was important that nurses knew which type of pin was inserted (sometimes a threaded pin was used, Denham's); method of removal of unthreaded (Steinmann's) pin differed from that of the threaded.Woodend Hospital (Oldmill Hospital)
