About MeFrom 1933 D.M. Sutherland was Head of Painting at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. He painted many landscape scenes of the Scottish countryside, particularly on the west coast. His early upbringing in Wick had given him a love of the sea and this subject appeared many times in his art.

This patchwork of cottages and fields draws our eye towards the dark hills in the distance. The dramatic sky suggests that this has been a day of ever-changing weather.
