About MeThe subject of this painting is a Capercaillie. The birds became extinct in Britain in the late 18th century. Traditionally found in Scottish pinewood woodlands, it is the biggest species of grouse in the world. The impact of the climate crisis and loss of woodlands is resulting in these reintroduced numbers to decline again.
